US and UK Urge Citizens to Leave Lebanon Amid Middle East Tensions

4 AUG, KATHMANDU – The US embassy in Beirut has advised its citizens to leave Lebanon on “any ticket available” due to escalating tensions in the Middle East.

This follows a similar warning from UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy, who cited the potential for rapid regional deterioration.

The situation intensified after Iran vowed severe retaliation against Israel for the assassination of Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran. This event followed the killing of Hezbollah commander Fuad Shukr in Beirut by Israel.

Fears are rising that Hezbollah could play a significant role in any retaliation, potentially triggering a strong Israeli response.

Early Sunday, Hezbollah launched dozens of rockets at Beit Hillel in northern Israel, which were intercepted by Israel’s Iron Dome defense system. No casualties have been reported.
